In Alma 31, Alma took Ammon, Aaron, Omni and others to do missionary work. They went to visit the Zoramites and minister to them, hoping to bring them back in to the fold of God's Church.
Zoram was the leader of the people called Zoramites and he was leading the people of God down dark and unrighteous paths with his teachings. He along with other of his priests would stand up on a high platform and preach about election and how there was no Christ.
Zoram on the RamiumptomThey would stand on this platform that was called the Rameumptom. They would express their thanks to God for saving them above others and that they worshipped a God who was a Spirit without a body. They would continue to say one man after another how they were elected and chosen above others to be saved by this God of Spirit that favors them above all others and that there was no Christ.
These men that claimed favor and election would do so publicly upon this high stand but then go home and not speak of God again until going up to stand on the Rameumptom again in front of people to profess their favor!
They dressed in gold and fine clothing and were prideful. They spoke of God with their lips, but their hearts were far from God.
Alma prayed so hard for the people. He was very sad and felt grief over what they taught and what they believed. Because Alma was righteous and prayed, God looked after them all, kept them fed, clothed, and safe from harm.
Likening This Chapter Unto Me
When I don't listen, it is easy to be led away from Christ's Church; this happened to me for many years! I always pray and listen now, and follow the Holy Spirit who testifies of truth.
