Day 65 Helaman 5-6 Part 1

In Helaman Chapter 5, Nephi the son of Helaman, son of Helaman  talks with his own son's about being good and following the example of the men they were named after, so that it would also be said of them some day that they were like Nephi and Lehi whom they were named after.

Nephi shares with his sons about how they should do what is good and keep the commandments.  He then shares my favorite scripture to them which is Helaman 5:12.

Nephi and Lehi began preaching to some  Lamanites (about 8000 of them). These  Lamanites repented and were baptised but  other Lamanites captured Nephi and Lehi and put them in the same Prison that Limhi put Ammon and his brethren in! When the Lamanites came to collect them to kill them after days of starving them, they found Nephi and Lehi surrounded by what looked like fire.  The Lamanites thought they would get burned, so they did not touch them.

Likening This Unto Me

I know that Nephi and Lehi were protected by God because of their obedience.  I also know that I have the power to call on God to protect me from bad people, people who would want harm done to me, or situations that would be bad for me.

When I pray and ask Heavenly Father for his protection, I always ask him to keep me away from anyone who would harm me, even spiritually; He always does.

After the Lamanites and Nephites who had aligned themselves with wicked men, saw the fire around Nephi and Lehi, the two righteous Nephites professed that God was creating this protection and then a voice came.   In Helaman 29-33, it says,

"29 And it came to pass that there came a voice as if it were above the cloud of darkness, saying: Repent ye, repent ye, and seek no more to destroy my servants whom I have sent unto you to declare good tidings.

30 And it came to pass when they heard this voice, and beheld that it was not a voice of thunder, neither was it a voice of a great tumultuous noise, but behold, it was a still voice of perfect mildness, as if it had been a whisper, and it did pierce even to the very soul—

31 And notwithstanding the mildness of the voice, behold the earth shook exceedingly, and the walls of the prison trembled again, as if it were about to tumble to the earth; and behold the cloud of darkness, which had overshadowed them, did not disperse—

32 And behold the voice came again, saying: Repent ye, repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand; and seek no more to destroy my servants. And it came to pass that the earth shook again, and the walls trembled.

33 And also again the third time the voice came, and did speak unto them marvelous words which cannot be uttered by man; and the walls did tremble again, and the earth shook as if it were about to divide asunder.

Those men did not doubt after that experience that God was real!  This is a really beautiful chapter and I hope you will go read it because there are things I didn't record here in this blog, but are amazing! 300 of those wicked men converted and went among their people teaching repentance and telling others about the miracles they had seen.

This is part 1 of day 65.  Ill do the rest after church tomorrow along with day 66.
