Today I read 2Nephi 10. In This chapter I learned that God gave America as a land of promise and that no King will reign here. It is a land consecrated by God and set apart to be a better land. I was reminded while reading, that I am to lay aside my sins, and not hang my head low. I can have joy also in living on this Continent, and in this place, a land of promise!
I believe the words of the Prophet Nephi's brother Jacob, who taught his family that even people scattered are remembered and known by God. We are not lost to Him even when we are not in our land of origin or with our family of origin.
In Chapter 10, the last few verses really are comforting and resonated with me.
2 Nephi 10:23-25
23 Therefore, cheer up your hearts, and remember that ye are free to act for yourselves—to choose the way of everlasting death or the way of eternal life.
24 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, reconcile yourselves to the will of God, and not to the will of the devil and the flesh; and remember, after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved.
25 Wherefore, may God raise you from death by the power of the resurrection, and also from everlasting death by the power of the atonement, that ye may be received into the eternal kingdom of God, that ye may praise him through grace divine. Amen.
What I felt from these verses are this
1. It is a gift, joy, and blessing to know we have free will and choice whether to do good continually or not, it is up to us. We are not slaves in bondage, but are free, and that freedom means that when we love God it is of our own choosing. It is genuine and real.
2. I get to be reconciled to God and turn away from the devil, the father of lies. When I reconcile to God i can trust that it is only through His GRACE that I am saved. (The word reconcile means to restore a broken relationship, to mend it, and tend to it.) It means accepting Christ's atonement which also means at-one-ment, restoring God's favor with me!!!
3. God will raise me from the dead at the Resurrection. I will receive everlasting life in the kingdom of God because of repentance and the atonement, and I can receive eternal life where I will praise him forever and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen
*Reminder that 2 Nephi 6-10, were written by Nephi's brother, Jacob.
