Day 44 Alma 18-19

Please watch this video tonight.  It is 25 minutes long but is a very good video telling the story of Ammon and King Lamoni.

When King Lamoni heard about how wonderful Ammon was and saw how faithful, obedient, and good he was, he thought that Ammon was "the great spirit" that was taught about.  He called for Ammon to be brought before him and he asked him if he was "the Great Spirit".  Ammon said no, but told him the Great Spirit was God.  King Lamoni didn't know who God was and so Ammon taught him.

This story has always been one of my favorites in the entire Book of Mormon.  King Lamoni listened as Ammon shared with him everything from the creation of Adam all the way to Lehi leaving Jerusalem.  He told him about the Rebellion of Laman and Lemuel and about Ishmael and their families.  He taught him about Heaven above and about the Plan of Redemption and the Savior to come.

King Lamoni became so overcome with the Spirit that after he professed his belief in the words of Alma that he passed out and was unresponsive on his bed for 2 days.  The Servants had to take him to King Lamoni's wife.  King Lamoni's wife and children were in a state of mourning him for those 2 days.

In Alma Chapter 19, the Queen hears of Ammons ability to heal and do great things.  She called for him to come to her and she asked him to heal her husband.  She told him that others say he is dead but she knows of Ammon's power and righteousness and favor with the Lord.  She said she believes that he can help her husband and bring him back.  Ammon told her that he is not dead but is resting.  He brought him back to awaking.  Ammon knew that King Lamoni was casting off his unbelief and resting in the Lord.

The waking of King Lamoni and the witness of the servants and King Lamoni's family and the Queen brought belief and conversion.

Likening these Chapters to Myself
Like I said above, this story in the Book of Mormon is one of my favorite stories. I love Ammon's example and faith.  He had courage and strength in what he knew to be humble and teachable, servant hearted and kind, and also strong and bold in teaching the King.  I hope that I can learn from his character and be this way in my life.  To be able to be humble and teachable, to know my truth, and be able to boldly but with kindness profess my beliefs when the Holy Spirit calls me to.

I love the courage and bravery of the Queen to call Ammon to help and her faith knowing he could.  The love she had for her husband the King, and her willingness to try to help him when others said it was already too late.  I want to have that kind of faith.  To be able to see needs and bravely ask when I need help from others.  To be full of faith and know that I can advocate on behalf of those I care about and love.  The story of Ammon and King Lamoni has many lessons for us.  I hope you will watch the above video and read these chapters.
