Lehi is about to die and he wants to leave words of advice to his sons and family. I was likening this unto me. What advice would I want to leave with my loved ones if I knew I didn't have long to live? I would imagine I would not want to waste words and I would want to make sure that the most important things that would benefit my family would be shared.
I'd tell them how much they are loved by Heavenly Father and me, and how to obtain eternal life so that we could see each other again in the next life by obedience to the laws and ordinances of The Gospel of Jesus Christ. I would share the Promises God makes with his children and that by being obedient those promises and blessings would be theirs.
I would tell them that life will have trials, but they will never be alone as long as they have a relationship with The Holy Ghost. I would make sure they knew how important loving others and serving them is. That loving Heavenly Father is first and can be shown through loving his children.
This chapter reminded me that God never leaves us alone. Lehi shared with his family to listen and follow Nephi because Lehi was leaving them. It reminded me of our church losing President Nelson last Saturday and how Heavenly Father didn't leave the church without a Prophet in Elder Oaks who will be sustained as our Prophet soon after President Nelson's funeral.
We are God's children and he is our loving parent. He wants us to return to him and doesn't leave us to navigate this earthly probation alone. It's comforting to know that we are children of loving Heavenly Parents and they want us to return to them someday.
